WHAT TO WEAR?

Relax and enjoy your session
with our helpful tips.

It's natural to be nervous about getting your photo taken but we will do our best

to make you feel relaxed and have fun.  If you have any questions about the

session please call our office and we would be happy to discuss your thoughts

and help you plan.  We look forward to working with you!

GENERAL TIPS

View some of our image galleries to see what other people wore.

Avoid large prints, patterns or bold stripes that can distract the eye from the subject and draw attention.  Avoid really tight grid or herringbone patterns which have a moiré effect on the camera.

Dress from head to toe.  We may be inspired to take some full length shots so it's better to be prepared.

Plan to wear a hair style with which you are comfortable.  Avoid new cuts or styles.

Use hair spray for fly away hairs or it can be costly to have them retouched.

FORMAL LOOKS

Long sleeves create a more formal, polished look.

If you're wearing a button-down shirt, make sure the collar is fastened for a neat appearance.

Avoid bold patterns, as they can distract from the subject. Stick to solid colors for shirts and jackets, and ensure they fit properly.

Choose accessories with subtle patterns to keep the focus on you.

For headshots, opt for necklines that aren’t too low or open to maintain a formal look.

DETAILS

If you have a beard or mustache, make sure it is neatly trimmed otherwise a fresh shave is best!

Don't forget about your finger and toe nails if you plan to do more casual portraits.

Normal makeup is fine.  Our lights do not need any extra makeup.

For more casual photos you can be more playful with your clothing styles and patterns.

GROUPS

For groups of 3 or more, select 1-3 solid colors that everyone can incorporate into their outfits. Choose one neutral color—such as tan, white, black, or jeans—to tie the group together.

While it's important for people to show their individuality, make sure the colors blend well with the group as a whole.

If you prefer everyone in the same color, ensure the shades match closely. For example, if everyone wears light blue but one person has a navy shirt, that person may stand out more than intended.

Also, try to avoid too much white, as it can sometimes be overwhelming in group photos.

GLASSES

If you wear glasses, be sure to wear them for your portrait. However, keep in mind that reflective glare from your lenses can be difficult to avoid until you're in the studio.

To completely eliminate any potential issues, consider borrowing a pair of empty frames (without lenses) from your optician that match your style. Removing glare from glasses can be costly, so it’s best to prepare ahead of time.
